A ranking policeman who jumped to the aid of a colleague that was assaulted by a knife attacker has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist subsequent to a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage released by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade outstretched.

He collided with the officer who stumbled and dropped to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the pavement although being multiple times hit with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, ending the confrontation to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need help on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell received multiple deep cuts to his neck and further cuts to his arms and body, while Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.

Authorities reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his partner's bleeding before medical personnel arrived.

The new honor arrives after the three officers received organizational Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in early 2024.

They further earned a North West Bravery Award in July 2024.

"The efforts of each policeman in the end rescued themselves and resulted in no bystanders suffered any harm."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, per authorities.
